FHP have augmented their strong Business Rates Team with the appointment of former Nottingham City Council Head of Business Rates, Ian Mitchell.
After 9 years at Nottingham City Council, Ian has turned from gamekeeper to poacher and will be looking to utilise his experience and vast knowledge of the business rates system to secure savings for business property occupiers on a ‘no win – no fee’ basis.
Strengthening the well-established FHP Business Rates Team, Ian commented:
“After 9 years as Head of Business Rates at Nottingham City Council I am delighted to join FHP. The team here is already terrific, led by Andrew Chapman and Alastair Fearn. Hopefully my experience on the ‘other side of the fence’ during my 9 years with Nottingham City Council will help me secure savings for business property occupiers far and wide as there are certainly a few tricks of the trade that I believe I can utilise.
Whilst delighted to deal with any business rates appeal, I am specifically looking for what we call Section 44A Relief opportunities, where ratepayers – whether owners or tenants – can secure relief from business rate liabilities if they are not occupying the whole of their property. This is an aspect of business rates where most occupiers are unaware that savings can be made. In this day and age where every penny counts hopefully this could assist.
I will be asking occupiers to ask themselves a simple question – are you using the whole of your property? If not then I am the man to speak to and hopefully I can secure savings for you as a result.
I can be contacted on 0115 908 2109 or 07551 170 838.
Head of Rating at FHP, Andrew Chapman commented:
“We continue to grow year on year with our business rates work and Ian’s appointment is a further strengthening of the team so that we can push our geographical boundaries still further to supply the best rating appeal advice possible.
For any occupier of commercial property, owner or tenant, we can appeal their business rates on their behalf and whilst savings can never be guaranteed we are more than happy to work on a ‘no win – no fee’ basis utilising our expertise to make savings for occupiers.
Ian’s nine years as the Head of Business Rates at Nottingham City Council will help us to achieve these goals and as a team we look forward to saving many thousands of pounds for occupiers over the coming years.”
For further information on submitting a business rates appeal either on the entirety of your premises or indeed where vacant in part then please contact Ian Mitchell on 0115 908 2109 or 07551 170 838.
